Andover, CT - The Hop River Radio Club celebrated the grand opening of club station K1HRR on Tuesday September 7, 2017. Surrounded by fellow amateur radio operators and interested locals, station trustee Mary Duval cut the ribbon to officially open K1HRR.

"I am thrilled to have had such a dedicated group of individuals committed to assisting in achieving our dream of opening a club station for our members to enjoy." said Mike Donnelly, club president. "We are very grateful for all donations of time, effort, and materials that went in to making K1HRR a reality."

After the ribbon cutting, the group moved inside to show off the radio room, also known as a "ham shack", to those in attendance. "This station is definitely an asset to the town of Andover, and can certainly assist with emergency communication should we ever need it, which is why I have been one-hundred percent behind the project." said Andover First Selectman Robert Burbank as he presented club president Mike Donnelly with a dedication plaque.

Time was also taken to recognize the talent and assistance of fellow amateur radio operator Don Wilson K1IN, and his gracious donation of time and energy to help erect the antenna and tower.

Attendees were treated to a variety of snacks, including a radio-themed cake provided by Just a Piece of Cake Bakery.

The Hop River Radio Club would like to thank everybody who attended the event. Everyone is welcome to attend regular meetings, whether you are a licensed amateur or not.
